Are you ready for another Midwest adventure? Check out this post written with our dear friends in St. Louis, Missouri!
Some of the best weekend trips are the spontaneous weekends spent with our family and friends in cities around the Midwest. This weekend’s adventure was to St. Louis, Missouri, home of the Cardinals, the Blues, the Arch, and some spectacular food. While enjoying our first lovely day with our pals who recently moved to the city, our friend who has lived in St. Louis for many years introduced us to some of her favorite sites, foods, and experiences.
First, the food. Let’s start with breakfast. If you haven’t had Ooey-Gooey Butter Cake, it may become a staple in your diet after having this donut from the World’s Fair Donut shop…Our waste bands are lucky these aren’t made near our residence. For lunch and dinner, your options are endless. We explored Italian for dinner. Another St. Louis special is fried Ravoli. One bite of this delicious appetizer dipped in fresh marinara left us craving more…and more…and more. St. Louis is also known for its barbecue. Some of Katie’s favorites include Pappy’s Smokehouse and Sugarfire. We will definitely be back to explore the BBQ! To view a few more of Katie’s favorites, see the bottom of this post.
Explore the breweries of St. Louis to taste the flavors of local brands. We really enjoyed our tour of the historic Anheuser-Busch Brewery and the children love seeing the Clydesdales! These places offer many fun events so check their schedules often for new experiences.
Next, the sites. While in St. Louis, explore the Arch, the St. Louis Zoo, Busch Stadium and Ballpark Village, the Budweiser Brewery Tours, Six Flags, and more! Don’t miss the St. Louis Zoo, recognized as one of the nations best. Take a guided tour or explore on your own.
The iconic Gateway Arch in St. Louis is located along the mighty Mississippi River in the heart of St. Louis. Visitors can explore the Arch and it’s surrounding park. You can get a more distant view of the Arch and downtown St. Louis from just across the river in Illinois.
St. Louis is home to the Cardinals who play at Busch Stadium just a few blocks from the Gateway Arch. The stadium and nearby Ballpark Village create an atmosphere that caters to the average to avid sports fan! Soccer fans can soon watch the new St. Louis MLS team. The St. Louis Blues provide excellent winter sporting entertainment in the Enterprise Center also located in the heart of St. Louis!
For the thrill seekers, venture to the City Museum or Six Flags St. Louis! Six Flags St. Louis is located west of the city and features an exciting, roller-coaster filled theme park as well as the great Hurricane Harbor Water Park for the hot days of summer. St. Louis Union Station has been morphed into the St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station, the St. Louis wheel, and several other experiences to go along with nearby restaurants.
For the adults, St. Louis has all you need for a fun night out on the town or a great day of golf, biking, and hiking. It features not only the Ballpark Village but also pubs, clubs, an entertainment district, upscale dining, live music, and more. For the art aficionados, the Citygarden, Laumeier Sculpture Park, and more await.
